SENSOR ACTIVATED HAND DRYERS

Question:

Hand Dryer Expert,

Hi there, I am writing re your Airforce Hand Dryer Model J-979 - will this unit shut off immediately when the person steps away from the unit or does it continue to run?
Thanks,

Tim

Answer:

Tim,

All automatic hand dryers, like the Airforce, are designed to stop running when the user removes his or her hands from them. The Airforce is designed with a 1 second delay so that it won't go off when you are still trying to use it.

Further information: If your hand dryer is running when hands are not present, we call that ghosting. This could be because of a faulty sensor, a bad electrical connection, or because there are reflections in the room. If the hand dryer is mounted too close to a the surface below it such as a counter (closer than about 14 inches, give or take) then it might be cycling because of the reflection off of the counter. If this is happening, first reset the hand dryer by turning off the circuit to the hand dryer. Some hand dryers have a sensor that can be adjusted to be more or less sensitive by turning a screw connected to the circuit board.
