CONDUIT POWER

Low cost, automatic hand dryer

Question:

Hand Dryer Expert,

I bought some Electric-Aire LE1-974 hand dryers a few weeks ago. We were about to install them but then we realized that power needed to be brought in via a conduit. Do you know if manufacturers have brackets available to accommodate an install where the power cannot be brought in through the back of the dryer?

Signed,  Rick

Answer:

Rick,

Almost all hand dryers, as with this Electric-Aire LE1 hand dryer, have an opening at the bottom of the dryer that will allow the conduit to come in along the surface of the wall.  This is usually an easy fit, but if the opening is not large enough you can sometimes get an adapter to make it fit.  Call your manufacturer or a hand dryer distributor like Restroom Direct to check your options.  (This opening can also be used to add a regular 110 volt cord and plug.  The manufacturers do not like this much because the dryers were built to be hard wired, but it is fairly common practice.  This is simple to do, but make sure you understand the situation before creating a plug-in hand dryer yourself.)

Thanks, Hand Dryer Expert
